Google光纤如何工作

高速互联网的未来

Google光纤和其他千兆位服务提供商的存在，似乎正在刺激竞争，促使它们在拥有高速选择的地区为消费者提供更快的服务和速度——而且价格通常更低。没有光纤网络的地区有时每Mbps支付的费用比有光纤网络的地区高得多，特别是对于商业服务。这使得拥有光纤，尤其是千兆光纤，成为城市吸引产业的独特竞争优势。一些城市甚至通过建设自己的光纤网络，或试图说服私营公司这样做，来亲自动手。未来很可能许多地区将看到来自谷歌以外实体提供的接近千兆位的网络，而且价格合理。

超高速互联网的潜在用途包括许多人能想到的功能，例如观看无延迟或无缓冲的高清视频、在线游戏更快的响应时间、无缝的视频会议以及非常快速的软件下载。这些对于普通用户来说将是很好的体验，但对于重度用户而言，也可能带来巨大的影响。学术界和工业界的研究人员可以进行全球实时协作，从而可能产生重要的发现。艺术家也可以这样做，从而带来一些令人难以置信的创意成果。在线教育可以突飞猛进。谁知道IT企业家们还会想出什么新点子呢？

谷歌推出其实验性光纤网络的既定目标是：推动下一代应用程序和服务的创建，学习新的光纤网络部署技术，提供共享的开放接入网络以使用户可以选择服务提供商，并使所有人的互联网访问变得更好、更快[来源：Google官方博客]。希望在不久的将来，我们更多的人能够享受到这一愿景。

我真的很期待千兆位互联网速度，以及有意义的宽带提供商选择。现在我社区的选择是30 Mbps的有线网络或1 Mbps的DSL。对于一个狂热地在线观看电影的IT专业人士来说，这根本算不上是选择。

当然，最初它可能只是意味着视频缓冲和软件下载缓慢的结束。但我也可以看到在线协作的各种可能性，例如在科学研究、平面艺术、电影以及其他需要大量带宽的领域。虽然我可能不处于这些进步的最前沿，但我可以默默地为它们喝彩，并通过付费支持网络。嗯，那是在我们这里获得更快速度之后。目前，我只能满足于30 Mbps的Netflix狂刷剧集体验。
