Twitter 的明星效应
尽管Twitter起源于美国,但只有大约三分之一的推文来自北美。英语是推文中迄今为止最主要的语言,日语和西班牙语分别位居第二和第三[来源:Richter]。
每天有数亿条推文发布,这清楚地表明Twitter的力量和影响力是真实存在的。2010年末,“阿拉伯之春”在中东爆发时,许多革命者转向Twitter,组织游行和抗议活动,并相互警告来自当局的危险。

无论是出于严肃的政治目的,还是无意义的闲聊,Twitter的随意性都可能是一把双刃剑。推文是一种简单快捷的沟通方式……但无脑的评论也可能以糟糕的方式迅速传播开来。
举个例子,让我们回顾一下贾斯汀·萨科(Justine Sacco)引发的轩然大波,她曾是IAC媒体公司的企业传播主管。萨科当时正前往南非度假,她“脑残地”发了这样一条推文:“我要去非洲了。希望我别得艾滋病。开玩笑的。我是白人!”
少数人看到了这条推文并进行了分享。她的飞机甚至还没抵达南非,萨科的名字就已经与带有种族主义色彩的无知联系在一起。她被解雇了,并立刻在互联网传说中占据了一个臭名昭著的位置。
热门有线讽刺节目《科尔伯特报告》也经历了基于Twitter的强烈反弹。在一名工作人员发布了一个断章取义的关于种族主义的讽刺笑话后,一位愤怒的Twitter用户呼吁取消该节目。很快,#cancelcolbert 的话题标签在Twitter上流行起来。
科尔伯特的编剧们通过一个关于此情况的长篇节目化解了这场风波,其中部分内容甚至嘲讽了Twitter本身。科尔伯特在节目结束时说道:“谁会想到,一种仅限于140个字符的交流方式竟然会造成误解呢?”
企业都非常清楚推文传播的速度有多快。发布投诉的消费者可能会看到他们的言论被许多人转发,从而给组织带来公关灾难。这就是为什么许多公司会雇佣人员监控Twitter和其他社交媒体网站,随时准备在负面消息成为头条新闻之前解决抱怨。
政治家也是如此。当英国政治家(也是Twitter新手)埃德·鲍尔斯(Ed Balls)不小心发了一条包含自己名字的推文时,互联网当然很快就抓住了这个机会,并对他进行了嘲讽。现在,每年4月28日,英国人民都会以一种半开玩笑的方式庆祝“埃德·鲍尔斯日”。
